RFA/EVLT

radiofrequency ablation (RFA) - the principle is the application of high temperature directly inside the saphenous vein via catheter which is introduced into the vein under ultrasound control through a small puncture in the skin, the wire is connected to a generator producing radiofrequency energy, the dosage is very accurate, the radiofrequency energy heats the venous wall to 120 degrees of Celsius and thus damages the vein from the inside so that the vein immediately closes

endovenous laser ablation (EVLA/EVLT) is a method similar to RFA, it is carried out by puncture of the spahenous vein, where the conductor is inserted and followed by a catheter

  • after pulling out the conductor, a laser fiber is introduced in its place, this method uses the so-called diode laser, which can be introduced into the interior of both wide and thinner veins
  • the laser beam creates a high temperature (100 degrees of Celsius) that closes the damaged vessel without violating its surroundings
  • the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia
